Predicting Texas’ next transfer portal addition after Ryan Watts
Terrence Lewis, LB
Another former five-star recruit and freshman that the Longhorns could turn to in the transfer portal at this point of the offseason is the former Maryland Terrapins freshman linebacker, Terrence Lewis. A former five-star recruit hailing out of Miami Central High School in Miami, FL, Lewis is definitely a name to watch out of the portal in relation to the Longhorns moving forward.
Texas was already seeking help at the linebacker position out of the transfer portal this offseason with the former UNLV Rebels star Jeremy Windmon. But it didn’t take long for Windmon to choose to take his talents to join head coach Mel Tucker and the Michigan State Spartans over the Longhorns earlier this offseason.
This leaves Texas with a few other potential transfer portal targets at linebacker at this point of the offseason. Lewis is one that could make a long-term impact for the Longhorns. But there is a risk with his injury history, as he missed essentially all of his true freshman campaign after working his way back from ACL surgery and multiple shoulder injuries this year.
Lewis would be a player that the Longhorns would essentially be starting from scratch with. He has all sorts of elite potential, but it might take a while to get there.
Placing some priority on pursuing Lewis out of the transfer portal this offseason could hinge on whether co-defensive coordinators/linebackers coaches Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate want to get a more proven and experienced linebacker that could more reliably make an early impact or a long-term project.
