For a little while there, the 2022 Texas football recruiting class was starting to gain some momentum with the touted four-star Duncanville edge rusher Omari Abor. Ahead of his early January decision, Abor was figured to potentially take Texas into account thanks to some turnover on the Ohio State Buckeyes defensive coaching staff entering the offseason.

Throughout much of his recruitment since the start of the fall, it looked like the Longhorns were pretty far behind the eight-ball with Abor. This looked to be a decision that was Ohio State’s to lose. But a lot has changed of late for Abor, and that seemingly was going to impact his decision to some degree.

Yet, it now appears that Abor is trending back to the Buckeyes ahead of his commitment that will be announced at the Under Armour All-America Game on Jan. 2. Ohio State is now sitting in the driver’s seat once again with Abor ahead of his weekend announcement.

Texas football could be out of the picture now with 4-Star Omari Abor ahead of his decision date

Four expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions that were entered for Abor this month have his commitment trending to land with the Buckeyes over the rest of the field. And there are two other Crystal Ball Predictions entered this fall that also project his commitment to land with Ohio State.

All six analyst and publisher predictions in the Rivals FutureCast also project Abor’s commitment to go to the Buckeyes.

There are some pretty clear signs at this point that some competing schools on the recruiting trail with Ohio State to land the commitment of Abor are starting to fade back. Some schools competing along with Texas and Ohio State to land Abor are the Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas A&M Aggies.

My personal belief on this matter is that Abor is about as close to a lock with the Buckeyes as he’s ever been. Just a few days ahead of his decision at the Under Armour All-America Game this weekend, expect Ohio State to be the destination for Abor.

Texas still has a very strong group along the defensive front thus far in the 2022 class. Defensive line was one of the strongest position groups for the Longhorns since the start of the fall, and that will still be the case regardless of what happens with Abor’s decision.
