Depending on whether head coach Kirby Smart, wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Cortez Hankton, and the Georgia Bulldogs want to take three-star Kinkaid School (TX) wide receiver commit Dillon Bell, there might be a shot for Texas football to jump in. Texas has started to emerge as a real contender to flip the commitment of Bell if Georgia decides not to take him in their 2022 recruiting class.

It appears to be the case right now that Georgia’s status in terms of whether they want to sign Bell is “on the fence” at most. And if that holds true through National Signing Day, there are other competing schools on the recruiting trail, such as the Longhorns, that are going to make a real play to flip the commitment of Bell in the weeks ahead.

But it sounds like there are two schools that Bell could boil his decision down to if he isn’t a take for the Dawgs in the end. According to a report from Inside Texas (part of the On3 Network, paid content), Texas and the Michigan Wolverines could be the two schools duking it out in the race to land a commitment from Bell if he doesn’t wind up signing with Georgia.

Michigan was one of the earlier schools to offer Bell. And they looked like one of the top schools in his recruitment throughout the summer. He took an official visit to Michigan back in June. But Bell would later commit to Georgia on Aug. 2, 2021.

Texas football still has a good shot to land 3-Star UGA WR commit Dillon Bell

The door has potentially opened back up, though, for Michigan if Georgia doesn’t take Bell. The previous relationship that Michigan running backs coach Mike Hart has built with Bell as his top recruiter will definitely play a role in his decision if he does open his recruitment back up.

Yet, Texas looks like they will get a visit from Bell before National Signing Day. It seems like this visit will come in early-to-mid January, giving Bell time to think his options over before officially making his decision by the time February arrives.

Texas currently holds a commitment from one blue-chip wide receiver in the 2022 class in four-star Spearman (TX) product, Brenen Thompson. At this point, Bell would be a definite take for the Longhorns given the need at wide receiver in the 2022 class.
