Tre Mitchell and Dylan Disu can dominant the paint

Where the Longhorns should really be able to dominate in this game is in the paint. Kansas State isn’t going to be the lengthiest or most athletic team that the Longhorns will face during the Big 12 slate in the frontcourt this season. This is where Beard and the Longhorns must take advantage of their strength in the frontcourt unit to beat down Kansas State.

It doesn’t look like the Wildcats really have anyone that can limit the potency of Texas’ standout frontcourt duo of junior center Tre Mitchell and junior power forward Dylan Disu. These two could have a field day against Kansas State’s frontcourt unit.

There aren’t any players for Kansas State that are even averaging 0.5 blocks per game this season. Kansas State also tends to struggle against some of the more versatile and potent big men offensively this season. For example, they nearly allowed Oklahoma forward Jalen Hill to get a double-digit on efficient shooting numbers from the field in their Big 12 opener last weekend.

Kansas State also hasn’t really faced a frontcourt pairing as potent or versatile as the Longhorns have in Disu and Mitchell. To make matters worse for Kansas State, Texas has a ton of frontcourt depth that they will use in different schemes and different units. In all likelihood, Disu and Mitchell won’t even be in the starting unit together.

Where this game can really be won for the Longhorns is in the frontcourt unit. This is where Oklahoma got an edge on Kansas State early on. And it is also how the Longhorns can wear down the Wildcats as this game moves along.
