Running back is obviously going to be a position to watch in the Longhorns 2023 class given the program’s recent success here on the recruiting trail. Under former Texas running backs coach Stan Drayton, this position group tended to be a top contender for best in each class on either side of the ball on a regular basis.

If Choice can bring the type of energy we think he can on the recruiting trail to replace Drayton for the Longhorns, they shouldn’t really skip a beat in terms of the results here. Texas doesn’t have any commitments yet at running back in the 2023 class. But if Texas can find some traction with the touted four-star Edgewater (FL) running back Cedric Baxter Jr. soon, that could change in a hurry.

I believe that Baxter Jr. is someone that Texas should make a priority after nabbing Choice from the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets staff. It was obvious that Choice and Baxter were finding some traction on the recruiting trail. And it looks like Texas is going to find some momentum with Baxter if they do make him a priority with Choice on staff.

There will be some stiff competition, though, to try and nab a commitment from the potent 6-foot-1 and 215-pound rusher. A few of the other top schools at the moment appear to be the Alabama Crimson Tide, Ohio State Buckeyes, USC Trojans, and Florida State Seminoles.

Baxter just dropped his seven finalist schools, and it included Texas. This is a recruitment to watch to see how it develops in the next few months.
