So far this week, there is plenty going on for head coach Steve Sarkisian and this Texas football coaching staff in terms of activity in the NCAA Transfer Portal. Texas has already landed two commitments out of the transfer portal so far this offseason. And that should only continue as this month moves along.

A new transfer portal entrant that does have connections to the Longhorns, but quickly shot any of those rumors down, is the former Oklahoma Sooners freshman defensive back and Austin native Latrell McCutchin. Texas did already land one cornerback commit out of the transfer portal this offseason in the former Ohio State Buckeyes redshirt freshman cornerback Ryan Watts.

And if the Longhorns land a second defensive back out of the transfer portal this offseason, it doesn’t look like it will be McCutchin. After putting his name in the transfer portal earlier this week, McCutchin took to his Twitter timeline to quickly shut down any emerging rumors he heard about that pinned him to land on the Forty Acres in 2022.

He mentioned that he wants fans to “please stop it with the UT talk” and that he is “very much sick of hearing about it” less than 48 hours after putting his name in the transfer portal.

This was clearly meant to send a message that McCutchin isn’t looking to take his talents to Austin. And that’s fine because it doesn’t look like the Longhorns were wanting to make another defensive back like him a priority right now.

McCutchin did play well for the Sooners in the reps he did get last fall. He got snaps in nine games in the season that was, racking up nine combined tackles, one pass breakup, and two forced fumbles.

It will be interesting to see where McCutchin lands after putting his name in the transfer portal on Jan. 11. Given the way he was tweeting earlier on this day, it might be head coach Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans that reel in the commitment of McCutchin in the transfer portal when it’s all said and done.
