It was a good while since the last time we really talked about the former walk-on wide receiver and junior Kai Money. Texas has already lost one key wide receiver to the transfer portal this offseason in the former blue-chip recruit and redshirt junior Joshua Moore. Last month, the Texas Tech Red Raiders and new head coach Joey McGuire nabbed the commitment of Moore out of the transfer portal.

There was a point in time where Money looked like he could be working his way up the depth chart and become a real threat to get some key game reps in the last two seasons. But the traction never kept after Sark took over for former Texas head coach Tom Herman last offseason. It looked like Money could hang around in the two-deep last fall.

But not even that came to be throughout the entire 2021 season for Money.

After getting nearly 130 snaps between offense and special teams with the Longhorns in 2020, Money really saw his reps decline last fall. Money went from getting 129 snaps during the 2020 season, to just over a dozen snaps between offense and special teams in the season that was.

Given how active the Longhorns are in the transfer portal and on the recruiting trail in terms of trying to get help at the wide receiver position this offseason, I wouldn’t expect Money to get much more of an opportunity to get significant reps in 2022. That time likely came and went when Herman was let go last offseason.
