Gary Patterson reportedly already getting to work at Texas
The news that a lot of Texas football fans are waiting for has yet to officially come down from the school as of yet. Texas has yet to officially announce the hire of the former TCU Horned Frogs longtime head coach Gary Patterson, despite smoke coming from these discussions throughout the last few weeks.
It looked like the Longhorns could officially announce the addition of Patterson to the football staff late last week or early this week. But nothing of the sort has come as of yet from the school/athletic department.
Nonetheless, there’s enough to work off of in relation to Patterson joining this coaching staff to know that he’s already having a voice for this program during winter workouts. Patterson was even spotted at the Frank Erwin Center on the night of Jan. 18 in an eventual upset loss to the Kansas State Wildcats repping a Longhorns shirt.
Texas football reportedly already has Gary Patterson working on staff
Patterson is a very exciting addition to the Longhorns coaching staff. And it would be nice to have the hire officially out in the open. But it looks like Texas will make us wait at least a bit longer before this move is officially announced by the school.
According to a report from Horns247 on Jan. 19 (paid content), Patterson is “already working” for the Longhorns as of the middle of this week. It sounds like Patterson is essentially on this staff already. At this point, it’s pretty much open knowledge that he will be part of this staff to some degree having his voice heard on the defensive side of the ball in 2022.
This is big for the Longhorns to get this in place ahead of Junior Day and National Signing Day 2022. And that’s just in terms of what Patterson’s addition to the staff can help the Longhorns do on the recruiting trail in the days and weeks ahead.
There is also the matter of filling any positional needs out of the NCAA Transfer Portal where Patterson can help to evaluate talent.
It goes without question to say all that Patterson can do to help the Longhorns this offseason.
Texas has an important weekend upcoming with Junior Day on tap. It would also be good if the school could officially get the hire of Patterson announced. But we will have to wait and see for that in the days and weeks ahead.
