One of the targets of the Longhorns 2023 class that was on this coaching staff’s radar pretty early on in his recruitment is the highly-touted four-star Marlin (TX) linebacker, Derion Gullette. Texas was one of the first three schools to get a scholarship offer out to Gullette. And he might’ve visited Austin more times in the last 12 months than any other school.

Gullette visited Austin multiple times last year, including an unofficial visit as recently as late September. Texas getting him on another visit during Junior Day will be important to continue building on this relationship. While Texas looks to be in a good position with Gullette at this point, there are some major players going after him.

Just since December 2021, Gullette received offers from the likes of the Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The rival Texas A&M Aggies, Baylor Bears, and TCU Horned Frogs are three other schools that are also vying to win over the commitment of Gullette.

Gullette isn’t going to be the most highly-rated target of the Longhorns 2023 class on campus for Junior Day this weekend. But he is one of the earlier linebackers on the Longhorns’ radar for the 2023 class. And with this recruiting battle looking like it could eventually come down to Texas and Texas A&M, the Longhorns’ Junior Day this weekend is going to be one of the more important markers in his timeline.
