Just like Gullette was one of the early linebacker targets on the radar for the Longhorns 2023 class, four-star Flower Mound-Marcus wide receiver Ashton Cozart was one of the earlier on this staff’s radar at his position. Cozart still looks to be one of the more prioritized wide receiver targets on the board for the Longhorns 2023 class.

And with so many schools pushing hard for Cozart right now, this looks like a prime opportunity for the Longhorns staff to make a positive impression on this in-state product. This will also be a pivotal weekend for new Texas wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion to form a good connection with Cozart.

Former Texas wide receivers coach Andre Coleman was the primary recruiter after Cozart when the Longhorns originally sent him a scholarship offer.

If nothing else, though, it looks like Texas could now have a leg up with Cozart after bringing in Marion from the Pitt Panthers a few weeks ago. Marion is bringing good energy to the Longhorns wide receiver room by all accounts thus far.

Oklahoma is going to be the main school on the recruiting trail to beat out to eventually land a commitment from Cozart. There is still no program with more momentum in the race to land a commitment from Cozart than Oklahoma. Despite their coaching staff turnover, the Sooners hung around with the likes of the Longhorns and Alabama Crimson Tide as the top school for Cozart.

If Marion and the Longhorns can find a way to get an edge on the Sooners this weekend, it would be a major win for this coaching staff.
