3 important 2023 Junior Day visitors to watch this weekend for Texas
Ian Reed, OT
One of the faster-rising offensive linemen around the college football recruiting landscape for the 2023 cycle is the sizable 6-foot-6 and 295-pound Vandegrift offensive tackle Ian Reed. As a candidate to be the next 2023 target for the Longhorns that receives a scholarship offer, along with more attention from the coaching staff, Reed is definitely a key prospect to watch at Junior Day.
Texas and offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood are obviously going to prioritize recruiting along the O-Line in the 2023 class. That’s why it is key for the Longhorns to get off on the right foot with Reed after the unranked offensive tackle picked up numerous offers in the last few months.
It wouldn’t be at all surprising if Reed rises to the degree of a blue-chip recruit before too long. A good camp/combine run this offseason along with a big senior season would definitely be enough to get the local Austin product Reed up to blue-chip status. On3 also already has Reed rated as a blue-chip recruit.
Texas gave a lot more attention to Reed in the last few weeks. I would expect Flood and the Longhorns to really get after it with Reed in the weeks ahead too. It is a realistic expectation for Reed to come out of Junior Day this weekend with a Texas offer and as one of the more hotly-discussed prospects that play in the trenches.
Some of the highlights of the eight schools on Reed’s offer sheet at the moment are the Duke Blue Devils, Colorado Buffaloes, Indiana Hoosiers, Kansas Jayhawks, and TCU. If Texas were to offer him, it looks like they could leapfrog a lot of the schools on his offer sheet at this moment pretty fast.
