Among the more notable visitors for the targets of the 2023 Texas football recruiting class that was on campus this weekend for Junior Day was the elite five-star Arlington-Martin cornerback Javien Toviano. Texas prioritized the recruitment of Toviano for their 2023 class for a long time now. And we’re sure to see his recruitment really heat up in the next few months.

Toviano was one of the highest-rated targets of the Longhorns 2023 class that was in attendance for Junior Day this weekend. And with new head coach Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners still pushing hard to become the leader in the race to land a commitment from Toviano, this Junior Day visit was big for Texas.

It looks like the Longhorns got a good number of visitors from Arlington-Martin High Schools for the Junior Day festivities this weekend. And one of the highlighting prospects out of Martin is obviously Toviano.

Texas football seemingly makes a good impression on 5-Star CB Javien Toviano during Junior Day

According to a report from Inside Texas this weekend (part of the On3 Network, paid content), Toviano was “glad” to be back in Austin and liked how it went. It sounds like Texas did well to continue building on their relationship with Toviano. Making the right impression on this elite cornerback on visits like this will be critical in the months ahead.

Getting it right with key 2023 in-state defensive backs like Toviano will be an important looming task for the Longhorns coaching staff. They did land four-star corner, Terrance Brooks, in the 2022 class, which was a huge get. But landing Toviano will be a battle in and of itself.

This is one of multiple visits that the Longhorns got out of Toviano thus far during his recruitment. Texas will need to continue pressing with him to keep among his list of top schools in the months ahead.

It’s hard to get a read on Toviano at times. His recruitment has a lot of top schools involved, many of which aren’t the Red River rivals. Some other schools to watch in his recruitment are the Oregon Ducks, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Junior Day seemed to be a critical marker in how the Longhorns will continue to work on building out their big board for the 2023 and 2024 classes. And Toviano is set to be a key part of the defensive back big board for the Longhorns 2023 class.
