3 Texas players with something to prove in winter workouts
Hudson Card, QB
It’s not just during winter workouts that the three Longhorns players on this list will have something to prove. That is likely to be the case throughout the offseason. And that will definitely be the case with the former blue-chip recruit and rising junior quarterback Hudson Card.
I think most Longhorns fans honestly expected Card to put his name in the transfer portal by now. But Card is still sticking around on the Forty Acres. At this point, I would at least anticipate Card sticking it through with the Longhorns until the end of spring ball.
It would be surprising to see him put his name in the transfer portal in the midst of winter workouts. Granted, this is a constantly-evolving world of the transfer portal we’re living in nowadays.
From what we’ve heard, Card is looking “engaged” in winter workouts and maintaining a positive presence in the quarterback room early on this offseason. That is good news for this entire team since Card is the only signal-caller with actual significant game reps under his belt.
If Card does stick around with Texas through the fall, his presence will definitely be welcomed. But he’ll also still maintain a critical role for Texas if anything is to happen to the new potential starting quarterback Quinn Ewers at some point this year.
Texas is clearly lacking experience in their quarterback room right now. With redshirt junior quarterback Casey Thompson already having transferred to the Nebraska Cornhuskers this offseason, Card is the only one left in this room on the Forty Acres with starting experience.
