Texas ‘on track’ to land former TCU transfer DE/EDGE Ochaun Mathis
The activity in the NCAA Transfer Portal for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program is something that is stirring up a lot of excitement for this team ahead of the 2022 season. Texas is now up to four transfer portal additions so far this offseason.
And it looks like Sark and the Longhorns staff aren’t close to done yet in the transfer portal. A name to still watch for the Longhorns in the transfer portal at this point of the offseason is the former two-time All-Big 12 TCU Horned Frogs senior defensive end/edge rusher Ochaun Mathis.
Texas obviously needs help to bolster their group of edge rushers in 2022. And there might not be a better edge rusher in the transfer portal at the moment than the former Horned Frogs standout Mathis. That could be said for most teams around the college football landscape each and every year.
Texas football still looks to be in a favorable position with TCU transfer EDGE/DE Ochaun Mathis
Knowing that he could link back up with longtime former TCU head coach Gary Patterson with the Longhorns, it looks like there is a natural fit between Mathis and Texas. That is something that a few writers/reporters from Horns247 (paid content) agreed with in a piece on Jan. 27.
Horns247 believes that Texas is still in a good position to eventually land a commitment out of the transfer portal from Mathis. That is likely a good assessment for where the Longhorns and Mathis are at right now.
It’s clear at this point that Mathis is going to take his time to evaluate multiple schools throughout his recruitment process out of the transfer portal during the winter and spring. We’re likely going to get a decision out of Mathis early in the summer months.
That is when Texas fans are hoping to get the decision of Mathis in their favor. The early indications do look good for the Longhorns. But this is going to be anything but a slam dunk for the Longhorns to land a commitment from Mathis.
Texas would do really well to land a commitment out of the transfer portal from Mathis. Edge rusher might be the biggest area of need that the Longhorns can address at this point of the offseason in the transfer portal too.
