Second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee are putting together what looks to be some solid early efforts on the trail for the 2023 Texas football recruiting class. And there is no bigger recruitment for Sark and Milwee to hit on early for the 2023 class than with the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning.
Some assistant coaches for the Longhorns were set to visit Manning in the last couple of weeks. Multiple reports confirmed that Texas had Milwee and offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood visiting Manning in New Orleans this week to see him playing basketball.
Milwee is the primary recruiter pursuing Manning. And Sark has remained a very relevant part of this lofty effort to recruit Manning in the last calendar year.
The last two visits for the Longhorns with Manning were coach visits where they traveled to Louisiana to see him. That’s good to see the commitment here from the Texas coaching staff to visit Manning. It will certainly help with making the right impression and building a solid foundation with the elite Louisiana quarterback.

It was reportedly on Jan. 27 that the Longhorns had Flood and Milwee visiting Manning in New Orleans. Flood, Milwee, and the Longhorns weren’t the only visitors for Manning this week, though.
The Ole Miss Rebels and head coach Lane Kiffin, along with the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs, were all in attendance in the last week reportedly to watch Manning play basketball.

It sounds like Texas did well with this visit to see Manning this week. This can serve as further proof that Texas definitely is in a good position with Manning at the moment. You would have to consider Texas one of the top three or four schools right now in the race to eventually land a commitment from him.

Alabama and Georgia also have remained steady contenders among the top schools to get a commitment out of Manning. It also looks like Kiffin and Ole Miss are also making a push to get themselves in the mix of top schools for Arch.
We also shouldn’t be counting out the likes of new head coach Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers and head coach Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers in the recruitment of Manning. Clemson and LSU should definitely still be considered contenders in this recruitment.
Texas currently holds just one commitment in the 2023 class as of Jan. 28 with the touted four-star Arlington-Seguin defensive back Jamel Johnson. For the Longhorns to continue to make progress with Manning ahead of what could be a late spring or summer decision, it is important to get him on a visit in Austin at some point before summer workouts begin.
