4-Star 2023 DL target Ashton Porter says ‘I love it’ at Texas
A name to watch that is a realistic candidate to soon commit to the 2023 Texas football recruiting class is the touted four-star Cy Ranch defensive lineman Ashton Porter. Texas had Porter on their radar for a good while now as defensive line coach Bo Davis did a really nice job building this connection on the recruiting trail since last summer.
Davis and the Longhorns staff hosted Porter on multiple visits to the Forty Acres, including one earlier this month. He’s actually taken a few visits to Austin since late last fall, confirming a lot of the speculation that Texas has to be one of the top schools (if not at the very top of the list) right now to eventually land a commitment from Porter.
And it seems like the most recent visit that Porter had to Austin went really well. According to a report from Inside Texas this week (part of the On3 Network, paid content), Porter said that “I’m excited to be back at UT and love it here” following his most recent visit to Austin.
4-Star 2023 Texas football DL target Ashton Porter looks to have a lot of traction with the coaching staff
Porter reportedly mentioned the “love” he has for Texas after the multiple visits he took to Austin in the last few months. This just shows the traction that the Longhorns staff is finding on the recruiting trail right now with Porter.
However, it would be a mistake to say that this recruitment is just over now for the Longhorns with Porter. This IT report notes that the Cypress, TX, product is still planning to take visits with the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Baylor Bears. It also looks like you can’t rule out the Arkansas Razorbacks yet either in the race to land a commitment from Porter.
Nonetheless, much of the speculation as it pertains to the recruitment of Porter at the moment has to do with the potential for him to be the second commit in the Longhorns 2023 class. But Texas will still have to close on this one strong to make sure other competing schools on the recruiting trail such as Texas Tech and Baylor don’t swoop in on him at the last minute.
The lone commit in the Longhorns 2023 class at the moment is the touted four-star Arlington-Seguin defensive back Jamel Johnson. It might not be long before the Longhorns get their second commit in the 2023 class. That discussion will heat up once National Signing Day 2022 officially closes the book on the 2022 recruiting class next week.
