It looks like it might not be too long for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff to get things going for the 2023 and 2024 Texas football recruiting classes after the conclusion of National Signing Day 2022 earlier this week. Texas rounded out the 2022 recruiting cycle on a high note earlier this week by landing a commitment from the elite five-star Bowie interior offensive lineman Devon Campbell on National Signing Day.

Now, the focus is turning to the Longhorns 2023 and 2024 classes with the 2022 recruiting cycle now in the rearview mirror. But the next move that Texas could make in terms of bringing in their next commit post-National Signing Day 2022 could be for the 2024 class.

Texas looks to have an opportunity to double up the number of commits in the 2023 class if they can get one of the rising 2024 targets on their radar. Rising 2024 Daingerfield (TX) four-star cornerback Aeryn Hampton now looks to be trending to land with the Longhorns.

Two expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions placed for Hampton on the evening of Feb. 3 project his commitment to land with Texas. And the On3 recruiting prediction machine currently gives Texas more than a 98 percent chance to land the commitment of Hampton.

According to a report from Horns247 (paid content) on Feb. 3, Hampton is “closing in on a commitment” and it sounds like Texas is in the “driver seat” if a top school had to be named right now.

Texas was one of the first schools to send a scholarship offer Hampton’s way. And Texas continued to stick with it while Hampton was committed to the Baylor Bears for a few weeks over the last couple of months.

Hampton originally committed to Baylor back on Dec. 8, 2021. But his commitment to the Bears and head coach Dave Aranda lasted less than a month as he re-opened his recruitment on Jan. 4, 2022.

Texas now looks to have the momentum on their side with Hampton. Cornerbacks coach Blake Gideon did a nice job building the connection he now has with Hampton. And that could pay dividends for the Longhorns 2024 class in the near future.

The lone commit in the Longhorns 2024 class at the moment is the touted four-star Aledo cornerback Jaden Allen. Texas could really get off to a hot start on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class at the cornerback position if they landed Allen and Hampton as the first two commits for this cycle.
