Ansel Nedore, DL

A prospect that recently got an offer from the Longhorns 2023 class that truly is seeing his recruitment go off of late is the four-star Round Rock defensive lineman Ansel Nedore. Texas got their scholarship offer out to Nedore during their Junior Day weekend last month.

That is the case for a good number of the prospects that have a Texas scholarship offer for the 2023 recruiting cycle right now.

Nedore is definitely an interesting defensive lineman that could provide a unique skill set in the Longhorns 2023 class if this is where he decides to take his talents to at the collegiate level. Nedore is a skilled 6-foot-3 and 255-pound defensive lineman that can play as a true defensive end in a 4-3 style defense.

He could also play as a defensive end in the 3-4 scheme with his hand on the ground if he puts on some weight during his senior season of high school football. At 255 pounds, Nedore doesn’t have the weight behind him yet to really push for a spot as a defensive end with his hand on the ground in the Pete Kwiatkowski defensive scheme.

Granted, the Longhorns might have the idea of moving Nedore to play more of an edge rusher-type position. He looks to be more of a natural fit as a defensive end in a 4-3 defense. But if Texas wants a role for him with this defense, he’s going to likely have to transition either to a true 3-4 defensive end or an edge rusher.

Nedore surely has a good amount of versatility in his game with his quick get-off and good footwork in the trenches. He’s good at stopping the run and getting pressure off the edge rushing the passer. There is the versatility in his game, though, to drop back into pass coverage when needed. Nedore had four pass breakups for Round Rock last season.

Maybe that could give him enough value to transition into a true edge rusher.
