Addressing looming needs along the offensive line for offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Kyle Flood and the Longhorns mostly came by way of the recruiting trail and the 2022 signing class since early-to-mid December. Texas signed one of their best offensive line classes in the recent history of the program, likely getting some immediate impact starters in this mix.

But Texas also still has the opportunity to address needs along the offensive line with some immediate impact additions out of the transfer portal. It’s hard to tell how willing the likes of Flood, Sark, and the Longhorns will be to do this given the fact that there is so much talent in the 2022 signing class along the offensive line. They could find a quality transfer at offensive guard, though, in the former Tulsa Golden Hurricane redshirt sophomore X’Zauvea Gadlin.

If there is a recent transfer portal entrant to watch for the Longhorns that could help along the offensive line, it is the two-year starter Gadlin. Last fall, Gadlin was one of the most improved offensive linemen in pass protection in the American Athletic Conference. He was one of the highest-graded offensive guards in the Group of Five in pass blocking too.

In almost 400 snaps in pass protection last year, Gadlin allowed only nine quarterback pressures and one sack. That led to an effectiveness rating in pass protection just shy of 99 percent last season.

Texas could use this type of production along the offensive line with the former Ohio State Buckeyes freshman transfer quarterback Quinn Ewers in the fold this year.
