West Virginia

There are two landing spots in the Big 12 for Daniels potentially this offseason out of the transfer portal that sticks out right away. And one of those two potentially appealing landing spots in the Big 12 that could make a lot of sense for Daniels lies with head coach Neal Brown and the West Virginia Mountaineers.

West Virginia saw their starting quarterback from the last couple of years in senior Jarret Doege enter the portal earlier this offseason. Doege already committed to Western Kentucky out of the portal, which specifically came back on Jan. 16.

That leaves the Mountaineers with a need to find their next starting quarterback this year. At this moment, it looks like the Mountaineers have the former blue-chip recruit and incoming freshman Nicco Marchiol as the favorite to win the starting quarterback job. But that would obviously come with a certain level of risk that Brown might not want to take.

It might be wise for Brown and the Mountaineers staff to take a safer approach by opening up the competition this offseason and getting another quarterback out of the transfer portal. West Virginia definitely got some success in the last couple of years with Doege out of the portal.

Taking to that route might not be such a bad move again this offseason. Daniels would certainly also bring a lot more versatility to this offense given his dual-threat ability. This fit does make sense for both Daniels and West Virginia. Watch out for Morgantown to emerge as a real player for Daniels if he considers them out of the portal.
