Texas basketball vs. Texas Tech prediction

This is going to be a big game for Texas to keep moving in the right direction ahead of the final stretch run of the regular season. Texas does have a good shot at this point of the season of earning a high single-digit seed for the NCAA Tournament and an advantageous path for the Big 12 Tournament.

To finish that out, though, Texas will need a strong finish to the regular season slate. With only five games left for the regular season slate, Beard and the Longhorns are really hitting crunch time. That is especially the case since Texas still has matchups remaining against the likes of the Red Raiders, Kansas Jayhawks, and Baylor.

The first focus should be on getting this win over Texas Tech, though. This is a game where Texas really needs the duo of senior guard Marcus Carr and senior forward Timmy Allen to be at their best. Overreliance on the likes of senior guard Courtney Ramey, redshirt senior shooting guard/wing Andrew Jones, and/or junior center Tre Mitchell won’t cut it in this one.

Allen was big for the Longhorns in their Feb. 15 win over the Sooners. He registered 20 points, four rebounds, two steals, and just one turnover on 8-of-13 shooting from the field in an impressive outing against Oklahoma.

A similar performance from Allen could really be a driving force to beat the Red Raiders this weekend.

Meanwhile, Carr was also solid for Texas in the win over Oklahoma earlier this week. He came up with 16 points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal on 5-of-11 shooting from the field against the Sooners. Carr has played pretty well of late, which bodes well for Texas in this meeting with Texas Tech.

Texas can win this one. They have to avoid the slow starts in the first half and get solid outings from their top senior players in order to beat a tough Texas Tech team, though. This does feel like one the Longhorns can win at the friendly confines of the Erwin Center.

Final score prediction: Texas-58, Texas Tech-55
