There are multiple wide receivers among former Longhorns that put their name in the transfer portal so far this offseason. One of those happens to be a former blue-chip recruit and redshirt junior Houston, TX, native Al’Vonte Woodard. It was a good while ago that we saw Woodard put his name in the transfer portal, which officially came back on Nov. 30, 2021.

Woodard officially put his name in the transfer portal just a few days after the regular season finale for the Longhorns last fall that resulted in a win over the Kansas State Wildcats on Black Friday.

Going through the formality of the Senior Day ceremonies with the Longhorns in the regular season finale back on Nov. 26, Woodard was a likely entrant to the portal all along.

There was an interesting response from Woodard on Twitter last week to a post from a Sam Houston State coach saying “let’s work coach” and a reply with a highlight video of his. He hasn’t really had any reported ties to Sam Houston State out of the portal, though.

Woodard could be facing a pretty patient recruitment out of the portal this offseason. He’s already been in the portal for more than two fulls months now.

In his four years on the Forty Acres, Woodard registered seven catches for 62 receiving yards and no touchdowns.

Woodard did have more than 450 snaps during his time at Texas. A good portion of those came on special teams. But he’s still got a good amount of seasoning at the collegiate level now under two different coaching regimes.
