3 most notable former Texas players still available in the portal
Ayodele Adeoye, LB
Among the most notable former Longhorns players in general that have entered the transfer portal so far this offseason is the former blue-chip recruit and junior linebacker Ayodele Adeoye. When healthy, Adeoye was actually a pretty productive linebacker for this Texas defense. He got a good number of snaps in 2019 and then some more reps in 2021.
All told, Adeoye took more than 750 snaps between defense and special teams over the course of the last four seasons. He was also a consistent starter at linebacker back in 2019.
As a player that battled injuries and having to learn various new schemes during his four years at Texas, Adeoye really could use a change of scenery this offseason. There should be some interest from the Group of Five, if nothing else, to land a commitment from Adeoye out of the portal.
There aren’t really any schools of note that have seemingly reached out to Adeoye with any meaningful communication that we know as of yet. But that could change in a matter of time this offseason.
What Adeoye brings to the table from his four years at Texas are more than 60 career combined tackles, four tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two-dozen stops, one interception, and two pass breakups.
The final two former Longhorns players on this list that are still in the portal as of the afternoon of Feb. 23 are definitely two of the more likely candidates to return to the Forty Acres later this offseason. If Texas can’t find help at the linebacker position from another avenue this offseason, I don’t think it’s worth ruling out the idea that Adeoye returns before fall camp.
