One of the bigger needs for Texas to fill this offseason comes along the defensive front. But one of the harder spots to pin down for the Longhorns is at defensive tackle. Texas certainly has plenty of talent among former blue-chip recruits that can play at defensive tackle or nose tackle. But that didn’t yield Pete Kwiatkowski and Bo Davis many positive results last fall with the personnel they had on hand.

Thus, Texas is probably at least going to be open to the possibility of finding linemen out there that can either play at defensive tackle or nose tackle in Kwiatkowski’s 3-4 front. That’s where the former UCF Knights standout junior defensive tackle Cam Goode comes into play.

At 6-foot-2 and 315-pounds, Goode can either play at nose tackle or defensive tackle to help anchor the line. He got a significant number of snaps playing at both spots along the defensive line in his last three seasons at UCF.

Goode was also really effective in anchoring UCF’s defensive line for the last couple of years. He registered nearly 50 combined tackles, a dozen tackles for loss, six sacks, 32 quarterback pressures, three batted balls, and four forced fumbles in the last two seasons at UCF.

With Texas returning the likes of senior defensive linemen Keondre Coburn and Moro Ojomo, there could be a bit of a clog depth-wise at both defensive tackle and nose tackle. But Texas didn’t seem to be sold on what that duo brought to the table last season. Bringing in another experienced defensive tackle could bring more proven versatility to this group.

Coburn has also experienced some injury issues in the last few seasons. Adding depth behind him at nose tackle could be a good insurance policy for Davis and the Longhorns this year.
