Entering spring ball, one of the position battles to watch will be what happens at the z-wide receiver spot. With the projected two-deep at the z-wide receiver spot featuring the former Wyoming Cowboys breakout stud redshirt freshman Isaiah Neyor as the starter and rising senior Marcus Washington as the backup, there could still be some shakeups to come.

New wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion could be one of the major factors to any shakeups that could happen for Texas among their outside wideouts. Texas struggled to find an answer for their outside receiver last season once redshirt junior Joshua Moore appeared that he would be on his way out.

But it’s hard to argue with the thought that Texas is getting an upgrade at outside receiver in 2022 with the addition of Neyor and the loss of Moore.

Moreover, what happens with Washington could be interesting to watch in spring ball, though. Texas didn’t get much efficient production from Washington to speak of last season. And knowing that Washington likely has two years of eligibility remaining, the former blue-chip recruit might want to find a team where he could get more immediate playing time.

We also can’t forget that Texas will be looking to finally get the fellow former blue-chip recruit and redshirt sophomore 6-foot-3 wideout Troy Omeire in the mix this coming season. Omeire battled a myriad of knee injuries in the last couple of years. But we’ve seen flashes from Omeire that prove he could be a real playmaker on the outside for Texas.

If Washington doesn’t show out in camp this offseason, he could be moved down to the third spot on the depth chart at the z spot behind Omeire and Neyor.
