Texas Basketball: 3 takeaways from critical win over Virginia Tech
Marcus Carr bounces back after bad performance vs. TCU
One of the most critical performances that the Longhorns got in this win over Virginia Tech came from the former Pitt Panthers and Minnesota Golden Gophers senior transfer guard Marcus Carr. After a tough outing in the Longhorns’ loss in the first game of the Big 12 Tournament against the TCU Horned Frogs last week, Carr really responded well in this Round of 64 game.
Carr was one of the most productive players in the entire rotation for the Longhorns in this win over Virginia Tech. He definitely had one of the most efficient games of the season so far for him.
In this one, Carr gave Texas 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field, 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, and he had no attempts from the free-throw line. Carr also came up with an impressive game-high nine assists, one rebound, two steals, no block, and just one turnover.
This was one of the best games of the season for Carr. And it’s a good sign that his game is trending up heading into the Round of 32. The hope will be that Carr can consistently maintain this level of production and efficiency in Texas’ next postseason game.
Nonetheless, you have to give a lot of props to Carr in this game. He gave Texas one of the biggest highlights not just of this game, but of the entire NCAA Tournament thus far. That came when Carr hit an insane buzzer-beating shot at a distance further than halfcourt ahead of halftime.
This all was delivered by Carr in the first NCAA Tournament game of his career.
