Left tackle

Starter: Kelvin Banks*

Backup: Christian Jones

Left tackle should be a spot where the incoming freshman and former five-star Summer Creek recruit Kelvin Banks has an edge to win the starting job. He’ll be competing with a group of three offensive tackles to win a starting spot along the line coming out of spring ball along with the likes of senior Christian Jones and sophomore Andrej Karic.

Moreover, left tackle is going to be a critical spot for Texas this year. And if they can get Banks to step up in his first year in college, that would help this group make some pretty massive strides this fall.

Watch out for Jones to compete for first-team reps at both offensive tackle spots in spring camp, though.

Right tackle

Starter: Andrej Karic

Backup: Christian Jones

It just goes to show how short offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and the Longhorns are along the offensive line in spring ball that the projected backup in the two-deep is the same at both offensive tackle and guard spots. At right tackle, it looks like Jones will be battling Karic for the starting spot coming out of spring camp.

It’s hard to tell who will have the early edge between Jones and Karic. Jones has more experience, but Karic is the younger of the two and started to improve more down the stretch in Big 12 play last season. For that reason, I would put Karic above Jones as the projected starter at right tackle heading into spring ball.
