Texas brought in a highly touted group of defensive backs by way of their 2022 signing class. And the cornerbacks highlighted that group of touted defensive backs in the 2022 class thanks to the talent level that incoming freshmen former four-star recruits Terrance Brooks and Jaylon Guilbeau bring to the table.

Both Brooks and Guilbeau possess the ability to make an immediate impact for the Texas secondary. But the former of those two looks like the one to watch in spring ball at the cornerback position.

The skill set that Brooks put on display in his limited time on the Forty Acres thus far is clearly making a very positive impression right away. Brooks seems to be getting high marks from current and former Longhorns players, the coaching staff, and the media since he arrived on campus earlier this semester.

Brooks is definitely going to challenge to get significant game reps this fall given his one-on-one coverage ability and mature skill set coming out of high school.

But the early indications are that Brooks is one of the most impressive players through winter workouts and the very start of spring practice. According to a report from Inside Texas this week (part of the On3 Network, paid content), Brooks is one of the best corners in coverage through the first week of practice so far.

Brooks also got high marks for his technique and overall ability in pass coverage from former Texas starting cornerback Josh Thompson recently. He really seems to be making a big splash since arriving on campus a few months ago.
