Over the weekend, Texas had multiple notable former players out of this program returning to campus in the midst of Manning’s visit. One of those notable former Longhorns players on campus over the weekend was the former senior starting defensive back and 2022 NFL Draft entrant Josh Thompson.

Thompson was apparently back on the Forty Acres over the weekend attending some portions of spring camp for the Longhorns. And according to a report from Horns247 (paid content), Thompson was one of multiple people attending the Dell Match Play golf event over the weekend with Manning.

It sounds like Manning had a good time attending the golf tournament last weekend as a former Longhorn in Scottie Scheffler won the event.

The assumption here would be that Thompson was also in attendance for the Longhorns’ recruiting festivities and/or the spring practice in the midst of this weekend visit with Manning.

Moreover, while there doesn’t look to be much of a relevant connection on the surface between Manning and Thompson, it will always help to have a recent player in the program that is giving this type of energy to assist on the recruiting trail. Thompson can bring a different perspective to the table in terms of how he is preparing for the NFL Draft after spending one year under Sark and defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski.

That isn’t something that the other two players on this list can do in the recruitment of a top-tier target on the recruiting trail such as Manning.
