BR names Texas CB Terrance Brooks a freshman to watch in spring
One of the highest-rated signees from the 2022 Texas football recruiting class came in the midst of the Early Signing Period last December. The former four-star Little Elm cornerback recruit and incoming true freshman Terrance Brooks is set to make waves for this Texas defense right away from the looks of it.
Adding Brooks to the mix for spring ball was huge for Pete Kwiatkowski, Terry Joseph, and the Longhorns this offseason. He’s competing for playing time right away in spring camp.
And this comes after it looked like Texas might not even be able to land Brooks just a few months ago.
In an impressive feat on the recruiting trail for the Texas staff during the first signing period in mid-December 2021, Brooks flipped his commitment from the Ohio State Buckeyes and signed almost immediately. Texas also got Brooks to campus this spring semester as an early enrollee to get some valuable practice rep in camp.
Moreover, the hype about what Brooks can do for the Longhorns spans the college football media landscape. This was evident in the fact that Brad Shepard of Bleacher Report included Brooks amid his most intriguing freshmen to watch in college football this spring.

Shepard of BR is clearly very high on what Brooks can bring to the table for the Texas secondary right away. Here’s more on what this piece had to say on the matter of the impact Brooks can have on the Longhorns this spring.
"Brooks is a top-100 prospect who is sometimes overshadowed by some of the other big-name players in Texas’ brilliant fifth-ranked recruiting class, but he shouldn’t be. He has the potential to be one of the high-end corners in this class. On film, Brooks looks fluid in the open field, can lock down receivers in man coverage and has the awareness to be effective in zone coverage, too. There is a reason why a lot of the top teams wanted him. He has plenty of elite, moldable traits."
Shepard does hit the nail on the head of why Brooks can make a big splash right away for Texas in spring ball. Texas is short on depth in the secondary for the most part this offseason. And the fact that Brooks has a ready-made skill set at the collegiate level this early on is something that will make an immediate difference in the defensive backfield this fall.
Yet, Brooks is not the only incoming freshman corner worth watching for the Longhorns this spring. Texas also got a late addition/re-commitment to the 2022 signing class last December with the former TCU Horned Frogs commit and four-star Memorial corner Jaylon Guilbeau.
Brooks and Guilbeau both have the ability to make an impact right away for the Texas secondary.
Texas began spring camp with their first practice back on March 22. And the Longhorns are now less than one month away from the spring football game, set to take place on April 23 at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
