4-Star WR Johntay Cook slams Texas football in video
Four-star DeSoto wide receiver Johntay Cook is one of the most important targets for new wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion and the 2023 Texas football recruiting class. Cook is part of a group of around a half-dozen offensive recruits for the 2023 cycle that could fall in the bucket of “must-get” targets for this Texas recruiting class.
Moreover, Marion and the Longhorns hosted Cook for a visit to Austin in each of the last two weekends. And by most accounts, those visits went well as Texas looks to gain some ground in the race to land a commitment from Cook during this important spring visit season.
Yet, there was something that surfaced on social media early this week that saw Cook taking a jab at the Longhorns in one of his weekend visits to Austin. In a video posted on Twitter this week, Cook can be heard saying that “all they got is swimming trophies” when looking at all the trophies on display during his visit.
Touted WR recruit Johntay Cook takes a shot at Texas football in a video that surfaced this week
This post on Twitter by AggiesToday spread around social media pretty fast this week, especially among the Texas A&M faithful. Head coach Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M Aggies are heavily involved in the recruitment of Cook, so it makes sense that their fans jumped into the conversation on social media.
Yet, this was obviously something that sparked a major back and forth on Twitter between the Longhorns and Aggies faithful. That is always something that is going to come from a post like this regarding a top blue-chip recruit.
Despite this video surfacing from Cook taking a jab at the Longhorns, it still looks like Marion and head coach Steve Sarkisian are sticking around among the top schools in the race to land his commitment.
Texas obviously wanted to take the opportunity they had and make some moves in this recruitment by hosting Cook for two weekends in a row.
It looks like Cook followed up this video that surfaced on social media this week with some more activity on his Twitter timeline regarding this matter. It will be interesting to see what happens for Cook in his upcoming visit to College Station after this video came about following his visit to Texas.
