5 key recruits visiting Texas this weekend
Trey Owens, QB
Each and every Texas fan tends to keep focusing on the recruiting trail at the quarterback position for any future class solely on Arch. And while that is for a good reason given the fact that Arch might be the biggest quarterback recruit in the modern history of the program, evaluating other prospects at the position for future classes is still important.
That’s where evaluating newer quarterbacks for future recruiting classes emerging on the Longhorns’ radar such as the rising 2024 Cy-Fair signal-caller Trey Owens comes into play. The 6-foot-5 and 195-pound in-state quarterback Owens doesn’t currently have a recruiting ranking yet from 247Sports, Rivals, On3, ESPN, etc.
But it doesn’t take long while watching the film/high school highlights of Owens before you notice some of the raw talent he brings to the table. Owens is a quarterback that has a lot of obvious arm talent, albeit there are still some very raw aspects to his game.
This is why it will be important for the Longhorns to continue to monitor the development of Owens very close during his junior season at Cy-Fair High School.
The areas where Owens needs to improve the most are his footwork in the pocket, timing on certain outside routes, and consistency in his accuracy on deep balls. But he’s got plenty of time to progress in these certain areas.
Moreover, this is a good time for Longhorns fans to see what Owens can bring to the table as a quarterback with a good amount of raw arm talent. He’s set to make his first weekend visit to Austin in the next couple of days.
Owens doesn’t yet have an official Texas offer. But that could be coming very soon if the visit this weekend goes well with the likes of Sark and quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee.
