Ja’Tavion Sanders, TE

As a breakout player to watch in spring ball for the Longhorns, the former elite five-star recruit and rising sophomore tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders looks to be well on his way to earning a starting role. Sanders definitely looks the part in spring ball thus far from what we’ve heard coming out of practice and the last two major scrimmages in the past two weekends.

The scrimmage notes from Inside Texas this weekend (paid content) indicates that Sanders looked like a “true five-star recruit” out there during the scrimmage on April 16. But that sentiment was echoed from multiple reports coming out of the weekend as it sounds like Sanders was one of the very best players on either side of the ball for the Longhorns in this scrimmage.

More specifically, Sanders was running his routes clean, making all the catches he needed to, and picking up his blocking assignments effectively when called upon.

Quinn Ewers, QB

Who isn’t talking about the former elite five-star Texas commit and ex-Ohio State Buckeyes freshman transfer quarterback Quinn Ewers after his performances in the last couple of scrimmages these last two weekends?

The answer is nobody.

Ewers appeared to really be on his game, tossing multiple impressive touchdown passes, in each of the last two weekends. This came while he was seemingly settling into this quarterback competition in a positive sense in practice for the last couple of weeks.

It’s also worth noting that the budding connection between Ewers and the star sophomore wide receiver Xavier Worthy appears to be especially potent if the last two major scrimmages this spring mean anything.
