It’s clear that second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and new wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion just got a lot more talent in their wide receiver room this week with the addition of a former blue-chip for the Texas football program on the night of April 19. Texas added the former four-star recruit and Alabama Crimson Tide freshman wide receiver Agiye Hall out of the transfer portal after his announcement on social media.

Hall specifically announced on his Twitter timeline on the night of April 19 that he would be giving his commitment to the Longhorns out of the portal.

This announcement came from Hall just a few days after his visit to Austin concluded last weekend. Hall took a multi-day visit to Texas over the weekend. And Texas was the only school that he visited before announcing his commitment out of the portal this week.

The commitment from Hall out of the portal on April 19 brings the number to five for Sark and the Longhorns so far this offseason. Texas has also added two wideouts from the transfer portal after nabbing Hall. The other wide receiver portal addition for the Longhorns is the former Wyoming Cowboys breakout redshirt freshman Isaiah Neyor.

Texas football gets a second wide receiver transfer in former Alabama blue-chip Agiye Hall

Hall spent one season playing for the Crimson Tide before he departed and transferred to Texas. In his one season playing for head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide, Hall registered four catches for 72 receiving yards (18 yards per catch), with no receiving touchdowns.

He also only took 78 offensive snaps last season with the Crimson Tide, a little more than half of which would see him utilized in run blocking. Hall was also targeted 10 times in the passing game last season, each of which resulted in first downs. He also had two drops, one missed tackle force, and miss on three contested balls thrown his way.

Now, most Longhorns fans are asking right now what are they getting out of Hall and can he make some flashy contributions to the receiving corps immediately?

The answer to that first question of what the Longhorns are getting out of Hall broadly is pretty complex. To put it simply, though, Texas is getting a very potent and talented 6-foot-3 and 195-pound outside receiver that has incredible long-term promise for this program.

Hall was one of the highest-rated wide receiver recruits coming out of the 2021 cycle. He signed with Alabama out of Bloomingdale High School in Florida boasting incredible 40 and shuttle times (around 4.5 and 4.3 seconds, respectively), along with a solid vertical leap just shy of 38 inches.

He just has incredible physical tools and tremendous body control. Those assets are invaluable if Hall can hone in on them in the next couple of years with the Longhorns.

Moreover, the answer to the second question of how much will Hall contribute right away is easier to discuss. Immediate and flashes contributions on a consistent basis should not be realistically expected out of Hall this coming season. As mentioned before, Hall has only taken a little shy of 80 offensive snaps in his career to date. And he has just about as many drops under his belt as he has career receptions.

Given that, Texas fans need to be at least a little bit more patient with Hall. He’s not likely going to be a big-splash starter right away for this receiving corps. Yet, it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see his contributions steadily rise as the upcoming season moves along and he works more seamlessly into the offense.

All in all, there’s a lot we can, and will, dive into regarding the addition of Hall for the Longhorns out of the transfer portal this offseason. He’s a big addition that should have a sizable long-term impact on the program.

Hall is one of a couple of transfer portal targets for the Longhorns that could wind up on the Forty Acres this spring. Texas is expecting a decision from the former TCU Horned Frogs two-time All-Big 12 senior defensive end/edge rusher Ochaun Mathis by the end of the month.
