Texas football cracks top 10 for 2022 transfer portal rankings

You can’t refute the fact that second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff have done nice work in the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason for the Texas football program. Texas has done well to fill a few positional needs so far this offseason by landing some immediate impact players out of the transfer portal.

Sark and the Longhorns staff have now added five players out of the transfer portal as of the afternoon of April 23. The latest addition for Sark and the Longhorns out of the portal this offseason came courtesy of the former talented Alabama Crimson Tide freshman wide receiver Agiye Hall.

Texas officially landed a commitment from Hall out of the portal back on April 20. The addition that brought the Longhorns up to five commitments out of the portal so far this offseason is also the second wide receiver to join the mix via this route.

The other wide receiver commit out of the portal so far this offseason for the Longhorns came from the former Wyoming Cowboys breakout redshirt freshman and reigning All-MWC selection Isaiah Neyor.

Moreover, all of these touted additions for the Longhorns out of the portal so far this offseason have landed this program among the top schools in the latest transfer rankings from 247Sports. According to the 247Sports Transfer Football Team Rankings, Texas now sits at No. 8 in the country for their 2022 portal class.

It’s also worth noting that the Longhorns have the second-highest average commit ranking out of the portal, only behind the Crimson Tide.

Texas sits this high in the transfer portal rankings at this point of the offseason largely due to the addition of the former Ohio State Buckeyes freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers. He is one of the portal players that hold a perfect 1.000 ranking from 247Sports.

Ewers is just one of the four players for the Longhorns, though, that they’ve landed out of the portal with a ranking of at least .900. Hall and Ewers are two of them. And the other two are the former junior Alabama tight end Jahleel Billingsley and Neyor.

Texas officially began spring practice a little more than one ago, specifically back on March 22. Sark and the Longhorns are currently taking part in the altered spring football game on April 23 at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
