Another notable position change that took place during spring ball saw the former Oklahoma State Cowboys commit and three-star recruit Sawyer Goram-Welch move from the defensive line to the offensive line. Moving Goram-Welch from defensive tackle to play along the interior offensive line really felt like a move that was just to fill dire depth needs, though.

There was no single position group shorter on scholarship players in spring camp for the Longhorns than the offensive line. That was especially the case after Texas was down both offensive tackles Isaiah Hookfin and Andrej Karic.

Goram-Welch doesn’t really look to be a long-term solution for the Longhorns playing along the offensive line. And once Texas gets the influx of talent and depth along the offensive line from the incoming 2022 recruiting class, Goram-Welch is really going to have an uphill battle ahead to ever make his way onto the two-deep depth chart.

The same could be said for Goram-Welch in terms of trying to make his way onto the two-deep depth chart on the defensive side of the ball, though. Texas might be deeper along the defensive line than any other position group on this side of the ball.

Add all of this up, and you get a situation where it would make sense for Goram-Welch to seek out other opportunities for playing time by way of the transfer portal.
