Predicting Texas’ next transfer portal loss after Jaden Hullaby
Jett Bush, LB/EDGE
One particular position group for the Longhorns that could be losing some numbers among the players lower down the depth chart post-spring ball is linebacker. Texas definitely needs to add some quality depth at the linebacker position, and getting there might require Pete Kwiatkowski to get some new portal players in the mix ahead of fall camp.
There might not be an overwhelming number of quality linebackers in the portal at this point of the offseason. But Texas is likely to at least find an upgrade for their scheme over some of the current linebackers on the roster such as rising senior Jett Bush or rising junior Devin Richardson.
We’re keeping the focus here on Bush, though, as he could soon be on the outside looking in for the two-deep depth chart. Texas is likely about to get a lot more depth on campus along the defensive front if they can land Mathis out of the portal and with the incoming 2022 freshmen class.
Given the fact that Bush was one of the lowest-graded linebackers/edge rushers for the Longhorns in the last two seasons, it might be time for Kwiatkowski to look elsewhere to find answers to fill out the two-deep along the defensive front.
Bush is one of two edge rushers worth watching post-spring ball that I believe could realistically enter the portal in the next couple of days. The other is the former blue-chip recruit and third-year edge rusher Prince Dorbah.
Both Bush and Dorbah are facing an uphill battle to make it on the two-deep this fall either at the buck or jack linebacker spots. And with the clock running out on Bush’s eligibility at the collegiate level, it would make sense that he is the first among him and Dorbah to enter the portal this offseason.
