Honorable mentions

Before getting into the honorable mentions here, I want to note that all the players included here are ones that Texas is not known to be pursuing out of the portal at this point in time. There are some other names to watch in the portal that Texas can land to add frontcourt depth after missing on Aimaq.

Some names to watch in that regard are the former Louisiana Tech big man Kenneth Lofton Jr. and Memphis freshman forward Emoni Bates.

Efe Abogidi, C

The first name up on the list among the honorable mentions is the former Washington State Cougars sophomore center Efe Abogidi. This former All-PAC-12 Freshman Team selection became a steady force down low for Wazzu over the course of the last two seasons.

Texas would be getting an improving inside scorer, effective rebounder, and towering rim protector in the 6-foot-11 and 225-pound Abogidi who is coming off a season where he averaged around six rebounds per game and two blocks.

Qudus Wahab, C

If Beard and the Longhorns wanted to think outside the box a bit to find a solid rebounder, rim protector, and inside scorer to add depth to the frontcourt unit, then the former Maryland Terrapins and Georgetown Hoyas 6-foot-11 and 240-pound junior center Qudus Wahab could be a name to watch. Wahab isn’t coming off his best season after spending one year with the Terps.

But it could be intriguing for Texas to try and tap into the version of Wahab that averaged around 13 points per game, eight rebounds, and two blocks, with Georgetown two seasons ago.

Theo Akwuba, C

One of the more underrated and recent transfer portal entrants among big men is the former Louisiana Ragin-Cajuns and Portland Pilots senior center Theo Akwuba. The one-time All-Sun Belt and All-Sun Belt Defensive Team big man led the conference in block percentage in the last two seasons and ranked in the top five in rebounding percentage.

He could help the Longhorns shore up the frontcourt unit by adding a real force on the glass and at the rim on both ends of the floor.
