While the bulk of the important visit weekends for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program this spring are now in the rearview mirror, there are still a few visitors worth discussing in early May. Texas will actually have a few key visitors among their blue-chip targets in the 2023 recruiting class for the remainder of this week.

And one of the most important visitors to note for the Longhorns this week is the touted four-star Spanaway Lake (WA) cornerback Jasiah Wagoner. A report from 247Sports this week (paid content) confirms that Texas is set to host Wagoner for a visit in Austin specifically on May 5.

This report from 247Sports also indicates that Wagoner will be knocking out visits with multiple schools during this trip. He is also set to visit with new head coach Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners on May 6.

Texas and Oklahoma are both facing crucial visits with Wagoner this week. While both schools look to sit in a good position with Wagoner at the moment, each needs to make a great impression on him and his camp in the days ahead.

There might not be many other chances that the Longhorns get to make a big move in Wagoner’s eyes compared to the opportunity they have during his visit this week.

But Texas does have one advantage over Oklahoma in the sense that they’ve offered Wagoner while the Sooners have not at this moment.

This will be the first visit for Wagoner to Austin since the Longhorns officially sent a scholarship offer his way back on Feb. 23. It’s also worth noting that Texas is the most recent school to offer Wagoner. But that could change if he gets an offer from Oklahoma this coming weekend.

It’s clear that Wagoner definitely one of the rising targets to watch on the forefront right now for the Longhorns among defensive backs in the 2023 class. He’s one of the highest-rated defensive backs to currently hold a Texas offer for the 2023 cycle out-of-state.

If Texas can make the right impression with Wagoner during his May 5 visit to Austin, they could firmly insert themselves among the top schools in the race to land his commitment.

Cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph did a nice job on the recruiting trail of late connecting with Wagoner and his camp. Keep that up and Texas should be in a great spot with him heading into the summer months.

At the moment, it looks like the Oregon Ducks and Washington Huskies are the de facto leaders in the race to land a commitment from Wagoner. But you also can’t count out the likes of the Oregon State Beavers and Cal Golden Bears.

Texas currently holds commitments from five prospects in the 2023 class, with the latest coming from a pair of blue-chip skill position recruits in WR Ryan Nibblett and RB Tre Wisner. There is also one defensive back committed in the Longhorns 2023 class at the moment with four-star Arlington-Seguin safety Jamel Johnson.
