The activity in the NCAA Transfer Portal for head coach Chris Beard and the Texas basketball program has spiked a good bit in the last couple of weeks. As the transfer portal has heated up in the last few weeks, Texas has remained a player with a lot of the top players available.

Beard and the Longhorns are a long way away from having their work done in the transfer portal this offseason, though. Texas is going to have a busy offseason in the transfer portal once again. Granted, this offseason shouldn’t see the Longhorns be as active in the portal as they were last year.

A few weeks deep into this offseason, Beard and the Longhorns have one addition out of the transfer portal and a few departures. The one addition by way of the portal came thanks to a commitment from the former New Mexico State Aggies senior shooting guard Jabari Rice.

Which former elite recruits are worth Texas basketball pursuing in the portal in 2022?

And the losses for Texas to the portal thus far include sophomore guard Devin Askew, junior big man Tre Mitchell, and senior guard Courtney Ramey. You could also include the former blue-chip recruit and freshman forward Jaylon Tyson in the mix of losses to the transfer portal. But it was back last fall that Tyson committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders after entering the portal.

At this point of the offseason, it’s clear that the Longhorns still at least have a few holes to fill via the portal. And they could do so with a ton of talented players available on the transfer market right now.

With that in mind, here’s a look at three former five-star recruits that the Longhorns could snag out of the portal.
