Texas football QB Quinn Ewers says he has ‘different type of confidence’
As we wait for the next few months for the upcoming season to arrive, the anticipation will build surrounding the debut of the Texas football freshman transfer quarterback Quinn Ewers. Texas fans got to see Ewers in some type of altered version of live game reps at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium for the first time a couple of weekends ago.
This week, Ewers got to speak out regarding his thoughts on the upcoming season and the path that his collegiate career took to get him to where he is now. Ewers had an important piece released in The Players Tribune earlier this week, which immediately caught the attention of Longhorns fans.
It is well documented at this point that Ewers got to give his point of view on the transfer process as well as his two different commitments to the Longhorns since his recruitment out of high school.
New Texas football QB Quinn Ewers implies this team has confidence in the direction of the program
But it was interesting to hear him talk about how he feels like this program is changing under second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the tone he feels is being set within the locker room. It sounds like Ewers likes where the program is headed and has his mindset in the right place to lead this team at least for the next couple of years.
At one point in this Players Tribune piece, Ewers mentioned that he can feel “a different type of confidence in the air right now” within the program. And he noted that this feeling is “exciting” and “refreshing” for the culture of the program to be headed in the right direction.
Ewers appears to be taking a patient but confident approach to helping build the foundation of this program in the right sense. It’s good to hear some of the statements from Ewers in this piece. But he also noted that he doesn’t think the process of building up this program to where Sark and his staff want it to be will “happen overnight”.
From the looks of it, Ewers is headed in the right direction early in his time with this program. There is still a long way to go for Ewers to help elevate this program and effectively lead this offense this coming season. But it sounds like his mindset is in the right place at the moment.
Ewers spent one semester enrolled with the Ohio State Buckeyes before putting his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal early this offseason. It didn’t take long for Ewers to commit to Texas out of the portal where he is now competing with rising junior Hudson Card for the starting quarterback job.
