Breaking down 3 elite Texas football recruits announcing this summer
Javien Toviano, CB
Texas has long made the elite five-star Arlington-Martin cornerback Javien Toviano one of their top targets on the defensive side of the ball for the 2023 class. Toviano is also likely the top target at this point of the recruiting cycle at the cornerback position.
Toviano will continue to remain a top priority for cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph and special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks until he announces later this offseason. He is anticipated to have a summer decision timeline, especially if he knocks out the official visits he wants to take throughout next month.
And one of the schools likely to get an official visit on the books with Toviano is Texas. It is also expected that the likes of the Texas A&M Aggies and Georgia Bulldogs are locks to get official visits from Toviano in the next couple of months.
A few other schools to watch that could get one of the remaining official visits from Toviano are the Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, and LSU Tigers. I would watch LSU as a potential dark horse in this recruitment.
But this recruitment is largely stacking up with a couple of leaders in Georgia and Texas A&M with Texas just behind likely in third place. If Toviano showed us anything, though, in the last six months or so, it’s the fact that his recruitment can take a turn in a hurry. Texas is very much still in this thing.
The order in which Toviano takes his official visits this summer could play a huge role in the school he eventually commits to. It would be big for the Longhorns to get the last major official visit from Toviano before he announces his decision. Since there isn’t an official locked in yet for Texas with Toviano, it’s worth keeping in mind for this coaching staff that getting the final word here would be critical.
