Earlier this offseason, Texas football saw their former starting redshirt junior wide receiver Joshua Moore commit to multiple different schools out of the NCAA Transfer Portal. After initially entering the transfer portal last fall, Moore would commit to new head coach Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

And then, Moore would later flip his commitment from Texas Tech to join new head coach Sonny Dykes and the SMU Mustangs in the American Athletic Conference.

But that commitment wouldn’t last either as Moore is now likely back on the open market in the transfer portal post-spring ball. According to a report from Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News on Twitter on the night of May 9, Moore “is not expected to come to SMU”.

For the second time this offseason, former Texas football WR Joshua Moore will not attend a school he committed to

Hoyt also added that this “helps explain why SMY added two transfers” at the wide receiver position this offseason. One of the other wide receivers the Mustangs added out of the portal so far this offseason is a fellow former Longhorn in redshirt sophomore Kelvontay Dixon.

Moore and Dixon are two of nearly a half-dozen former Longhorns players that committed to SMU out of the portal at some point this offseason. A couple of other former Longhorns players that transferred to SMU in the last few months are freshman edge rusher/defensive end David Abiara and junior safety Chris Adimora.

SMU has become a favorite for former Texas transfers so far this offseason. But that makes sense to some degree given the fact that a lot of these transfers are Texas natives that could get a shot at immediate playing time with Dykes and his staff turning over the Mustangs roster this offseason.

Moreover, it is also looking like Moore will be returning to the transfer portal for the third time this offseason. There’s not much of an indication yet as to where his ultimate landing spot out of the portal could be in 2022.

During his three years playing for Texas, Moore registered 61 catches for 790 receiving yards (15.7 yards per catch) and 13 receiving touchdowns. He had a down season during the 2021 campaign after posting career-best numbers in the shortened 2020 season.
