Texas football hosting star WR Jordan Addison on official visit
The player that should be considered the biggest target in the NCAA Transfer Portal for the Texas football program post-spring ball is clearly the reigning Biletnikoff Award winner and Pitt Panthers star sophomore wide receiver Jordan Addison. Texas looked to be one of the top schools involved in the recruitment of Addison out of the portal since he originally surfaced on the transfer market last week.
Addison got his name in the transfer portal just inside the deadline window for immediate eligibility, which came back on May 1. It originally looked like new head coach Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans would be the favorited landing spot for Addison right away out of the transfer portal last week.
But that narrative is shifting at least slightly this week. Addison is apparently taking his time with this transfer process. And that is evident in the fact that he’s taking multiple official visits this month.
That’s where we get this big-time news out of the portal this week concerning Addison and the Longhorns. A report from Gerry Hamilton of Inside Texas (part of the On3 Network) on Twitter on the afternoon of May 10 indicates that the Longhorns are hosting Addison in Austin for an official visit this week.
Texas football getting a huge official visit from star transfer WR Jordan Addison
There was also an Instagram story that Addison posted on his page on May 10 showing him in his hotel room in Austin. Obviously, this shows he’s in Austin for his official visit already this week.
This is the second official visit for Addison since his name surfaced in the transfer portal last week. He had a visit with USC last weekend and was also seen working out with the reigning Heisman Trophy winner and Alabama star quarterback Bryce Young in California in the last few days.
Texas has the commonly mentioned connection between the former Pitt wide receivers coach and new Longhorns wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion with Addison. Head coach Steve Sarkisian also appears to be making it a priority for him to get involved personally on the communication with Addison throughout his transfer process.
We will continue to monitor this storyline as it develops throughout the next few hours and/or days. But the fact of the matter is that this is huge for Sark and Marion to get Addison to Austin for an official visit. That was definitely the next big step the Longhorns needed to take in the recruitment of Addison out of the portal to make some necessary moves to catch up with USC in the race to land his commitment.
If Texas were able to land a commitment out of the portal from Addison, that would be three wide receiver additions so far this offseason. The other two include the former Wyoming Cowboys breakout redshirt freshman Isaiah Neyor and the touted Alabama freshman Agiye Hall.
