Kitan Crawford, DB

One of the most notable position changes during spring camp for Sark and the Longhorns saw the rising junior cornerback Kitan Crawford move to play at safety. Crawford didn’t get much of an opportunity to prove his value in the last couple of seasons playing at the cornerback position.

All accounts point to Crawford having a very successful run in spring ball this offseason after moving to play at the safety position. His successful run in spring camp looks like it could mean Crawford winning a starting role this fall.

Ja’Tavion Sanders, TE

If the former elite five-star recruit and Denton, TX, native Ja’Tavion Sanders got more offensive snaps, especially on passing plays last fall, then he would’ve made the list among the four slept-on studs for the Longhorns. But the fact that Sanders didn’t really get much of a chance to prove himself in the passing game last season means that he gets a nod as an honorable mention.

Nonetheless, Sanders still looks primed to have a breakout season in 2022. After a 2021 campaign where he wasn’t able to make much noise, the sophomore tight end is poised to make a real impact on the field this coming season.

Jonathon Brooks, RB

The running back room might be the deepest position group on either side of the ball for Sark and the Longhorns in 2022. That is largely due to the depth present at the running back position for the Longhorns this year which includes the likes of star junior Bijan Robinson, versatile senior Roschon Johnson, incoming freshman Jaydon Blue, and rising sophomore Jonathon Brooks, among others.

Brooks is a really interesting running back that could break through for Texas in 2022 depending on how heavy his workload is. We certainly saw flashes from Brooks last year, as he averaged nearly seven yards per carry on 21 attempts (143 total rushing yards), with one rushing score.

What was even more impressive was the fact that Brooks registered 143 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on just 44 offensive snaps in 2021.
