Kelvin Banks, OT

Another incredibly highly-touted five-star offensive linemen that Flood and the Longhorns signed in the 2022 class is the Summer Creek (TX) offensive tackle Kelvin Banks. Flood and the Longhorns were able to essentially pull off a shocker and flip the commitment of Banks from the Oregon Ducks just ahead of the Early Signing Period last December.

Now, the Longhorns will be waiting to see if Banks will truly be able to compete for key reps right away at one of the offensive tackle spots. That competition will be wide open as the Longhorns don’t really have either of the offensive tackle spots settled post-spring ball.

Moreover, it’s imperative that Banks come in during summer workouts and fall camp and make the right impression on the coaching staff right away. With some of the questions that surfaced from some struggles for Banks during the week of drills at Under Armour All-America practices a few months ago, he’ll need to cast those doubts aside by standing out in workouts this summer.

Banks does have the size necessary to compete right away at one of the offensive tackle spots as he stands at 6-foot-5 and 305-pounds. Granted, he could add around 10 pounds during summer workouts to really get up to his fighting weight ahead of fall camp.

Otherwise, Banks brings some excellent physical tools and open-field athleticism to the table that should stand out right away in camp a few months down the road. That’s where Banks will be hoping to prove his value in order to earn those early key reps this fall.
