Kaemen Marley

One of my personal favorite under-the-radar skill position players in the portal that is still available at this point of the offseason is the former Tennessee blue-chip athlete recruit and freshman wide receiver Kaemen Marley. After spending just one year with the Vols, Marley put his name in the transfer portal.

Marley is a really interesting portal player in the sense that he’s dealt with injuries in the past that limited his ability to get early reps at Tennessee, and it just seems like his ties were more with the previous coaching staff than with the new one in Knoxville.

It looks like there is still plenty of potential that the 6-foot-3 and 200-pound Marley brings to the table with multiple years of eligibility remaining.

There is also a connection for Marley to the Texas coaching staff dating back to his time as a recruit coming out of Eastern Randolph High School in Ramseur, NC. One of the schools heavily involved in the recruitment of Marley out of high school was the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Former Georgia Tech running backs coach Tashard Choice was Marley’s primary recruiter. And wit Choice recently getting hired as Texas’ running backs coach to replace the departed Stan Drayton maybe this could be a connection to watch moving forward.

Ricky Pearsall

The potential portal target at wideout for the Longhorns that we’ve mentioned the most often already this spring is the former Arizona State Sun Devils senior and grad transfer Ricky Pearsall. A few times before, we’ve dug into what Pearsall can bring to the table for the Longhorns, so I won’t dive fully into that again.

Yet, it is important to note that Pearsall is likely the most impactful wideout in the portal at this moment in terms of what he could do for the Longhorns right away this fall. Pearsall is coming off a successful 2021 campaign with head coach Herm Edwards and the Sun Devils where he registered a career-best 580 receiving yards on 48 catches (just over 12 yards per catch), with four touchdown catches.

Pearsall also had one rushing touchdown and just over 40 rushing yards.

Between the impact that Pearsall could have on the Longhorns in multiple respects as a wideout that would be almost guaranteed to make the two-deep this fall, I would think it makes sense for Marion and this staff to at least scout him out this spring.
