In their first game in the Big 12 Tournament, the five-seed and No. 19 Texas baseball will take on the four-seed and No. 9 Oklahoma State Cowboys early in the morning on May 25. For the fourth time this season, Texas will face Oklahoma State in a high stakes meeting that could help decide each team’s fate for hosting a Regional this postseason.

Head coach David Pierce and the Longhorns will be looking to bounce back from a bad weekend series sweep at the hands of the Pokes from earlier this season. This would be a great time for the Longhorns to avenge their losses to Oklahoma State from earlier this season with this first game in the Big 12 Tournament.

Texas carries a record of 39-17 (14-10 Big 12) into this first meeting in the Big 12 Tournament with the Pokes, coming off a three-game weekend series sweep of the Kansas Jayhawks that capped back on May 21. Pierce and the Longhorns have won five straight games and nine of their last 10 heading into the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma State comes into the Big 12 Tournament sporting a record of 36-18 (15-9 Big 12) following a series win last weekend over the Baylor Bears, which also capped on May 21. While the Pokes did win their final two games of the regular season, they still ended things out on the wrong foot for the most part.

Oklahoma State did lose five games in a row prior to beating the Bears twice to round out the regular season. That still means the Pokes don’t have a ton of momentum heading into the Big 12 Tournament, as they’ve lost five of their last seven games.

Here’s a look at the betting odds, TV/streaming information, and game prediction as Texas gets set to take on Oklahoma State in the first game of the Big 12 Tournament at Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX, on May 25, with the first pitch time set for 9 a.m. CT.

Texas baseball vs. Oklahoma State prediction

If the Longhorns want any shot at hosting a Regional this postseason, they’ll need the likely starter and redshirt sophomore ace Pete Hansen to come through with a big performance on the mound. With Hansen as the probable starter for this meeting against the Pokes, he’ll be in the firm spotlight to start off the Big 12 Tournament.

Texas will also need the bats to come through in a big way, which is led by the newly-named Big 12 Player of the Year and superstar infielder Ivan Melendez. After putting up a record-breaking regular season with a nation-leading 28 home runs, Melendez will be looking to help push the Longhorns to the point of contention to host a Regional this postseason.

Hansen and Melendez will be two obvious x-factors for the Longhorns against a solid Oklahoma State team in an early game to start the Big 12 Tournament.

This is another winnable game for the Longhorns, and this team should be very motivated to knock off a team they have yet to beat so far this season in Oklahoma State. If the Longhorns fall short in this one, they would only have one more shot to win the Big 12 Tournament, which would come on May 26.

Final score prediction: Texas-5, Oklahoma State-4
