Predicting Texas football’s next transfer after Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey
Honorable mentions
Jaren Handy, EDGE
Edge rusher now becomes the biggest position of need for the Longhorns to figure out for the remainder of the offseason. Texas has continually missed some of their top portal targets at edge rusher, including the former Alabama Crimson Tide five-star recruit Drew Sanders and TCU Horned Frogs All-Big 12 senior Ochaun Mathis.
But one name that I’ve brought up recently if he checks out in terms of his fit on and off the field with this program, is the former Indiana Hoosiers and Auburn Tigers junior edge rusher Jaren Handy. After getting dismissed from the Indiana program earlier this offseason, Handy would be a risky take for Texas. He is undoubtedly one of the best pass rushers remaining in the portal at this point of the offseason, though.
Zion Keith, S
It looked like the Texas coaching staff was going to prioritize adding experience and depth in the secondary by way of the portal during the spring. But Texas has yet to add even one defensive back that has more than a couple of years of experience. Watts is a nice addition.
But it might be worth looking into a more experienced defensive back for the Longhorns such as the former Wake Forest Demon Deacons redshirt junior safety Zion Keith. This fourth-year safety seems like a nice depth addition that could be a valued veteran voice for this position group.
Keith has 76 career combined tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one interception (that was returned for a touchdown), three pass breakups, and one fumble recovery.
Quavaris Crouch, LB
Suppose Texas isn’t done adding players out of the portal yet at the linebacker position. In that case, one valid option could be the former Tennessee Volunteers and Michigan State Spartans junior Quavaris Crouch. As another experienced option out of the portal, Crouch could be a solid backup to add depth at middle linebacker ahead of next season.
Tyus Fields, DB
Another defensive back option for the Longhorns to add some versatile depth could arrive in the form of the former blue-chip cornerback recruit and the redshirt sophomore Vols’ DB Tyus Fields. There is a lot of untapped potential in the 5-foot-11 and 185-pound Fields, who struggled to get snaps and had some injury issues in the last few years in Knoxville.
