One of the true strengths for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program in 2022 will definitely be the running back room. Texas looks to have the best running back room in the Big 12, which new running backs coach Tashard Choice will be looking to maximize this fall.

And we’re not the only party that thinks that Texas has one of the better running back rooms in the entire country this year, spearheaded by star junior Bijan Robinson. A piece from David Kenyon of Bleacher Report this week tabbed the Longhorns as one of the best backfields in the country.

Texas rang in at No. 5 on this list. This list also boasts Texas as the top backfield in the Big 12.

The main reason that was cited as to why Texas has one of the five best running back rooms in the country is the presence of Bijan. But this piece from Kenyon of BR also mentions the depth that the Longhorns have in the running back room. That is a key part of the makeup of this backfield too given the plethora of depth Texas has between the likes of senior Roschon Johnson, redshirt junior Keilan Robinson, sophomore Jonathon Brooks, etc.

Led by Bijan Robinson, Texas football gets the nod from BR as one of the best RB rooms in the country

Here’s more on what this BR piece had to say about the placement of the Longhorns as one of the top backfields in the country this year.

"Robinson lived up to the enormous hype, even on a disappointing Texas team. He registered 1,127 yards on the ground, adding 26 receptions for 295 yards and scoring 15 total touchdowns.Texas has respectable depth, too. In 2022, the Longhorns return Roschon Johnson (589 yards, five TDs) and Keilan Robinson (322 yards, three TDs) behind their superstar back."

Bijan will clearly be one of the major x-factors for the Longhorns in 2022. He was solid for them last season, but his campaign was cut short due to a season-ending upper-body injury.

Last season, Bijan tallied up nearly 1,500 total yards from scrimmage and 15 total touchdowns. He also averaged nearly six yards per carry.

But college football fans can’t overlook what Texas has coming out of the backfield with other weapons such as the aforementioned trio of Roschon, Keilan, and Brooks. Those three combined for more than 1,200 total yards and a dozen total touchdowns last fall.

Texas finished up last season with a record of 5-7 (3-6 Big 12), missing out on bowl season for the first time since 2016. Bijan and the Longhorns are set to open up the 2022 regular season at home on Sep. 3 against Louisiana-Monroe.
